More from Google Earth

I was fooling with the latest version of Google Earth today—very cool new features. I had hoped to make a movie with the view progressing down the street, but you need to have the expensive pro version to make movies.

So here are two stills of the front and back sections of the street. You probably can't read it, but at lower left in the images it reads "Imagery date: June 2007"—very recent. Sure looks almost the same.

  1. Dan, thanks, it looks to me as if the Thompsons' house is still there. In the top photo you can see the curving walkway to the front door and the driveway and other features that I remember. But it does look as if there is some sort of vehicle parking lot behind the former Landig residence. I think the $20,000 or so all our parents paid for their houses is roughly equivalent to $140,000-$160,000 today, which would suggest the housing bubble didn't encompass Green Valley.

  2. If you try to put in 3912 Green Valley Drive in mapquest or the post office, it comes up with the former Landig house and from some of the photos it looks like there is something new in the front of the house. I wonder if maybe our house and whatever it is behind Landig's are related to the street maybe getting sewers to replace the septics. Anyway, I will have a look when I a there in August.

  3. Behind the Landig's house is the new sewer pumping station (and a driveway to service it between the Landig's and Ammons'). It is gravity fed from the back end of the street in Hodil's field out past the Shady tree and down to the station. Also, note the Fishers still show a pool, which has since been covered in.

  4. I don't remember if the Rubys were still there when that pool was dug, whether Joanne played horses with us, neighing and jumping and generally cavorting in and out of that hole! I do remember them at a backyard barbecue before the pool (BTP), to which Helga and Stanley brought exotic 'grown-up people' hamburgers.
The pool was just filled in within the last year.
